देश की पहली आईआईटी की प्रथम महिला उपनिदेशक बनी प्रोफेसर रिंटू बनर्जी

First Lady Deputy Director for the first IIT of the country

June 13, 2024, West Bengal, India: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur welcomes Prof. Rintu Banerjee as the new Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur. Prof Banerjee has created a historical breakthrough by being the first woman to take over the charge of a Deputy Director of the first IIT of the country and the world.

Prof. Banerjee is the Founder Head and is presently the Chairperson of P K Sinha Centre for Bioenergy and Renewables. She has also served as the Head of the Centre for Rural Development, Innovative and Sustainable Technology and Head of the Department of Agricultural & Food Engineering at IIT Kharagpur for 3 years. In her career span, she has held many important portfolios including Chairperson of Centre of Excellence in Precision Agriculture & Food Nutrition; Nodal Coordinator for Australia and New Zealand for SPARC & Coordinator for RuTAG.

Prof. Banerjee has completed her PhD in Microbial Biotechnology from Chemical Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur. From the beginning of her career she was engaged in industry-academy collaborative research activities. As an outcome of her research, she has transferred several technologies to different industries and have many national/international patents to her credit. Recently, she has successfully transferred her 1G & 2G Ethanol technology to the industry for commercialization.

She has published two books in the area of environmental biotechnology and OMICS Based Approaches in Plant Biotechnology. Besides that she has handled several government/private/industry sponsored projects that includes TBT, DST, ICAR, UAI, ICMR, IMPRINT, SPARC, SERB and many other multinational industries. She has visited several countries as a Visiting Professor and for various scientific collaborations that includes Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Finland, Egypt, Australia, US, Taiwan, Japan, UK, South Korea, Laos, Thailand, Dubai, Doha, Brazil, Canada, Malaysia to name a few.

Prof. Banerjee was conferred the Panjabrao Deshmukh Award for Outstanding Women Scientist from ICAR; Best Woman Bioscientist form Biotech Research Society of India; Young Scientist Award’ 94 from the Association for Food Scientists and Technologists (India); Dr. Prem Dureja Endowment; Institute Chair Professor from IIT Kharagpur; Louis Pasteur Award; Madan Mohan Malviya Award and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award. She has also received the Most Inspiring Women Engineer/Scientist for the year 2014, for the exemplary work in the field of Science & Technology by Engineering Watch, New Delhi and has more than 12000+ citations under her name.

Speaking on being the first lady Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Rintu Banerjee remarked, “It is my utmost privilege and honour to be the Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur. Previously as the Dean of Research & Development, I wanted to develop opportunities of innovation and sustainable inventions with affordable technology. As the Deputy Director of the largest IIT of the country, my intent is to fastrack the economic progress of the country through innovative solutions provided by IIT Kharagpur along with uplifting the Institute’s ranking both on national and international levels. With industry 4.0 and digitronics making inroads using smart technology for ongoing automation of traditional industrial practices, the institution should boost its performance indicators to suit 

best in industry collaborations and indulges to develop strong policy mission programme with the government that sensitize people to ‘Make in India & Make for the World’.

 

 

 

देश की पहली आईआईटी की प्रथम महिला उपनिदेशक

 

13 जून, 2024, पश्चिम बंगाल, भारत: भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान खड़गपुर आईआईटी खड़गपुर के नए उप निदेशक के रूप में प्रोफेसर रिंटू बनर्जी का स्वागत करता है। प्रोफेसर बनर्जी ने देश और दुनिया के पहले आईआईटी के उप निदेशक का कार्यभार संभालने वाली पहली महिला बनकर एक ऐतिहासिक सफलता हासिल की है।

 

प्रो. बनर्जी  वर्तमान में पी के सिन्हा सेंटर फॉर बायोएनर्जी एंड रिन्यूएबल्स के अध्यक्ष हैं। उन्होंने 3 वर्षों तक ग्रामीण विकास, नवोन्मेषी और सतत प्रौद्योगिकी केंद्र के प्रमुख और आईआईटी खड़गपुर में कृषि और खाद्य इंजीनियरिंग विभाग के प्रमुख के रूप में भी काम किया है। अपने करियर काल में, उन्होंने कई महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर काम किया है, जिनमें प्रिसिजन एग्रीकल्चर एंड फूड न्यूट्रिशन में उत्कृष्टता केंद्र की अध्यक्ष; SPARC के लिए ऑस्ट्रेलिया और न्यूजीलैंड के लिए नोडल समन्वयक और RuTAG के लिए समन्वयक।

 

प्रोफेसर बनर्जी ने आईआईटी खड़गपुर के केमिकल इंजीनियरिंग विभाग से माइक्रोबियल बायोटेक्नोलॉजी में पीएचडी पूरी की है। अपने करियर की शुरुआत से ही वह उद्योग-अकादमी सहयोगात्मक अनुसंधान गतिविधियों में लगी रहीं। अपने शोध के परिणामस्वरूप, उन्होंने कई प्रौद्योगिकियों को विभिन्न उद्योगों में स्थानांतरित किया है और उनके खाते में कई राष्ट्रीय/अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पेटेंट हैं। हाल ही में, उन्होंने व्यावसायीकरण के लिए अपनी 1जी और 2जी इथेनॉल तकनीक को सफलतापूर्वक उद्योग में स्थानांतरित कर दिया है।

 

उन्होंने पर्यावरण जैव प्रौद्योगिकी और पादप जैव प्रौद्योगिकी में ओएमआईसीएस आधारित दृष्टिकोण के क्षेत्र में दो पुस्तकें प्रकाशित की हैं। इसके अलावा उन्होंने कई सरकारी/निजी/उद्योग प्रायोजित परियोजनाओं को संभाला है जिनमें टीबीटी, डीएसटी, आईसीएआर, यूएआई, आईसीएमआर, इम्प्रिंट, एसपीएआरसी, एसईआरबी और कई अन्य बहुराष्ट्रीय उद्योग शामिल हैं। उन्होंने विजिटिंग प्रोफेसर के रूप में और विभिन्न वैज्ञानिक सहयोगों के लिए कई देशों का दौरा किया है जिनमें जर्मनी, फ्रांस, इटली, स्पेन, फिनलैंड, मिस्र, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, अमेरिका, ताइवान, जापान, यूके, दक्षिण कोरिया, लाओस, थाईलैंड, दुबई, दोहा, ब्राजील शामिल हैं। , कनाडा, मलेशिया आदि कुछ नाम हैं।

 

प्रोफेसर बनर्जी को आईसीएआर से उत्कृष्ट महिला वैज्ञानिक के लिए पंजाबराव देशमुख पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया; बायोटेक रिसर्च सोसाइटी ऑफ इंडिया से सर्वश्रेष्ठ महिला बायोसाइंटिस्ट; एसोसिएशन फ़ॉर फ़ूड साइंटिस्ट्स एंड टेक्नोलॉजिस्ट्स (इंडिया) की ओर से यंग साइंटिस्ट अवार्ड’ 94; डॉ. प्रेम दुरेजा एंडोमेंट; आईआईटी खड़गपुर से संस्थान के अध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर; लुई पाश्चर पुरस्कार; मदन मोहन मालवीय पुरस्कार और रफी अहमद किदवई पुरस्कार। उन्हें इंजीनियरिंग वॉच, नई दिल्ली द्वारा विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में अनुकरणीय कार्य के लिए वर्ष 2014 के लिए सबसे प्रेरणादायक महिला इंजीनियर/वैज्ञानिक का पुरस्कार भी मिला है और उनके नाम पर 12000 से अधिक प्रशस्ति पत्र हैं।

 

आईआईटी खड़गपुर की पहली महिला उप निदेशक बनने पर बोलते हुए, प्रो. रिंटू बनर्जी ने कहा, “आईआईटी खड़गपुर की उप निदेशक बनना मेरे लिए अत्यंत सौभाग्य और सम्मान की बात है। पहले अनुसंधान एवं विकास के डीन के रूप में, मैं किफायती प्रौद्योगिकी के साथ नवाचार और टिकाऊ आविष्कारों के अवसर विकसित करना चाहता था। देश के सबसे बड़े आईआईटी के उप निदेशक के रूप में, मेरा इरादा राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दोनों स्तरों पर संस्थान की रैंकिंग को ऊपर उठाने के साथ-साथ आईआईटी खड़गपुर द्वारा प्रदान किए गए अभिनव समाधानों के माध्यम से देश की आर्थिक प्रगति को तेज करना है। उद्योग 4.0 और डिजिट्रोनिक्स पारंपरिक औद्योगिक प्रथाओं के चल रहे स्वचालन के लिए स्मार्ट तकनीक का उपयोग कर आगे बढ़ रहे हैं, संस्थान को अपने प्रदर्शन संकेतकों को बढ़ावा देना चाहिए
