Swachhata Pakhwada – 2022 awards given to best performing three Zonal Railways
Ministry of Railways has launched Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 today. Swachhata Pakhwada – 2023 was inaugurated by Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha, Chairperson & CEO, Railway Board on 15th September, 2023 by administrating Swachhata Pledge in Rail Bhawan. Swachhata pledge was administered to entire Railway family which includes employees of Railways along with senior officials of Railway Zones and Divisions connected via video conferencing.
Swachhata Pledge taken by entire Railway family focused on one’s commitment towards cleanliness, devoting hundred hours per year for cleanliness and propagating the message of Swachh Bharat Mission.
Ministry of Railways is observing Swachhata Pakhwada from 16th September 2023 to 30th September 2023. Ministry of Railways has extended it suo-moto up to 02nd October and has decided to culminate it with Mahatama Gandhi’s Jayanti.
This year, joint campaign of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Ministry of Jal Shakti namely ‘Swachhata hi Sewa’ (SHS) Campaign (from 15.09.23 to 02.10.23) is also being celebrated. Activities of SHS have been integrated with Indian Railways’ Swachhata Pakhwada programme.
For Swachhata Pakhwada – 2023, dedicated days have been assigned for activities during pakhwada like Swachh Railgadi, Swachh Station, Swachh Aahar, Swachh Tracks etc. Extensive awareness campaign are also planned to be carried out through digital media/public announcement via PA systems to educate people about the use of bio-toilets, avoiding single use plastic and observing cleanliness habits.
In order to ensure greater participation & more effective outcome of the fortnight, Swachhata Pakhwada Awards have been provided to each ministry by Ministry of Jal Shakti (nodal Ministry) for awarding to field functionaries/ attached offices/ subordinate organizations for exemplary performance during pakhwada period. Previous year Swachhata Pakhwada – 2022 awards have been given to following zonal railways:
- 1st Position: South Western Railway;
- 2nd Position: Western Railway;
- 3rd Position: North Eastern Railway.
Indian Railways is an environment friendly means of bulk transportation and it has always been in the forefront of promoting clean and green environment. It has taken several initiatives for providing clean environment in and around Railway stations and trains such as Bio toilets on coaches leading to clean tracks, segregation of bio degradable/non bio degradable waste, solid waste management, discourage use of single use plastic etc.
SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY TO OBSERVE SWACHHATA PAKHWADA
GENERAL MANAGER ADMINISTERS SWACHHATA PLEDGE TO SER EMPLOYEES

South Eastern Railway will observe Swachhata Pakhwada from 16th September, 2023 to 2nd October, 2023 with a view to culminate it with the celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s Jayanti. In connection with that, Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff at SER Headquarters, Garden Reach on 15.09.2023.
South Eastern Railway employees took oath to maintain cleanliness at workplace and keep India as a neat and clean country. SER officers and staff took pledge to remain committed towards cleanliness and devote time for this.
Principal Head of the Departments, senior officers and staff of South Eastern Railway Headquarters were present at the pledge taking ceremony. A Nukkad Natak was also performed at SER headquarters by members of S E Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides to create awareness about cleanliness.
Swachhata Pakhwada will be observed at Headquarters and four divisions of South Eastern Railway and all officers & staff will take part in cleanliness drive.
REGULATION OF TRAINS DUE TO DEVELOPMENTAL WORKS IN ADRA DIVISION
In view of Rolling Block in Adra Division of South Eastern Railway, the following trains will be regulated as under:
Cancellation of Trains:
- 08680/08679 Adra-Midnapur-Adra MEMU Special, journey commencing on 19.09.2023, 22.09.2023 & 24.09.2023 will remain cancelled.
- 08647/08648 Adra-Barabhum-Adra MEMU Special, journey commencing on 19.09.2023, 21.09.2023 & 24.09.2023 will remain cancelled.
Short Termination/Short Origination of Trains:
- 08174/08652 Tatanagar-Asansol-Barabhum MEMU Special, journey commencing from 19.09.2023 to 23.09.2023 will be short terminated at/short originated from Adra.
- 18035/18036 Kharagpur-Hatia-Kharagpur Express, journey commencing on 19.09.2023, 21.09.2023 & 24.09.2023 will be short terminated at/short originated from Adra.
- 03594/03593 Asansol-Purulia-Asansol MEMU Special, journey commencing on 19.09.2023, 21.09.2023 & 24.09.2023 will be short terminated at/short originated from Adra.
Rescheduling of Train:
- 18036 Hatia-Kharagpur Express, journey commencing on 20.09.2023, 22.09.2023 & 23.09.2023 will be rescheduled to leave Hatia at 12.20 hrs. instead of 09.20 hrs.
Diversion of Train:
- 18601 Tatanagar-Hatia Express, journey commencing on 20.09.2023, 22.09.2023 & 23.09.2023 will run on diverted route via Chandil-Gunda Bihar-Muri.
