August 17, 2023, West Bengal, India: The Foundation of a Family – that’s where it all began for IIT Kharagpur. The institute gears up to celebrate its 73rd Foundation Day on 18th August 2023 in the august presence of the Chief Guest Mahamahopadhyay Swami Bhadreshdas, Head BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute, Akshardham, Delhi along with Guest of Honours, Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Dr. Pattatheyil Arun, Director, Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata & Centre & Senior Consultant – Head & Neck Surgery. As the mother of all IITs, the institute has undergone significant reforms since its inception in 1951. Recently, the institute got a new gate at the entry of its main campus. The Main Gate at IIT Kharagpur comprising of Reception room, Security System and digital signage at IIT Kharagpur was inaugurated by Shri Dilip Ghosh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament on 16 Aug 2023 in the auspicious presence of Prof Virendra Kumar Tewari, Director; Prof Amit Patra, Deputy Director; Capt Amit Jain (Retd.), Registrar, other senior professors and members of IIT KGP community along with Senior CPWD officials. The Institute Main gate has total area of 3855 Sq ft with the tower of height 43.5 feet. The facilities include proper/controlled access, CCTV surveillance, Security Office, Visitors’ lounge, Wash Rooms, Parking Space and access to bank/post office. The institute main gate with the above facilities will help the visitors coming to IIT KGP and ensure better secure measure for the in-campus community.
Shri Dilip Ghosh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Medinipur Constituency, “IIT Kharagpur is one the most eminent Institution that we have in this district and I am happy to be here to inaugurate their new gate that gives a notion to the entire community of the institute’s grandeur presence.”
Prof. V K Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur remarked, “The new gate at IIT Kharagpur is a representation of the majestic pursuits that the institute has achieved since its inception in 1951. It was a long due for the entire IIT community that would stand tall as a Symbol of Excellence.”
