Yoga was an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India.
The word ‘Yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing
the union of body and consciousness.
The international Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June to bring peace, harmony,
happiness and success to every soul in the world. This was a great opportunity to
imbibe the value of discipline. International Yoga Day is celebrated to spread
awareness about the importance and health benefits of Yoga. It is being said that
Yoga helps balance the body and mind.
Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations
proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The
proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address
during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly, in which he said
“Yoga was an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of
mind and body, thought and action…..a holistic approach is valuable to our health
and well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense
of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.”
International Yoga Day was celebrated through an online platform Facebook. The
programme was organized and executed by the Cultural and Discipline Committee.
Our Chief Guest Mr. Swarup Das and his team conducted a very successful Yoga
session with the Principal, Teachers and the Management committee and also the
students joined the Yoga session through facebook live. Many yoga exercises
were performed such as Surya Namaskar followed by series of Pranayam. All the
teachers and students participated enthusiastically.
Yoga was actually done by sages as a holistic approach to God. Later on, it was
passed to the common people. The event helped us feel confident and content
physically, mentally and spiritually
