kharagpur, Kharagpur Workshop organized Vendors Meet was at CWM’s Conference Hall for the first time. Representative of 36 companies registered their presence in this vendors meet. Workshop’s initiative to promote MSME scheme of Ministry of Railways and Government of India was commendable. Previous any kind of demand and supply related to manual Procurement used to take a lot of time compared to e-procurement, but with this step of the Workshop, Kharagpur the demand and supply distance can be reduced at a fast pace without any delay. Even Vendor’s payment bills can be submitted online and tracking of payment can be traced through web portal. K Surendra Kumar, CDMS General Store informed that more than hundred items have been displayed which are related to rail coaches. Today’s vendors meet was successful as the role of local traders was positive. Vendors from many places have shown interest. It may be known that under the policy of the government, vendors from across the country will be able to supply their goods to the Railways through the GeM portal. This will increase transparency on the one hand, while the Railways will also be able to get goods at a better price. Till now, Indian Railways used to make purchases only through its purchase portal IREPS. Railway’s portal is being linked with GeM. Indian Railways is one of the largest procurement agencies of the Government of India. In fact, the Government of India is working towards making a single agency by merging all the agencies for government procurement.
Indian Railways procures goods and services worth more than Rs 70,000 crore every year. Through this first ever Vendor’s meet emphasis was on increasing the participation of vendors. It was organized under the leadership of Abdul Haee, Dy. CMM(WS) at Kharagpur Rail Workshop.
On this occasion B K Rath, CWM/WS, A K Kundu, Dy. CMM(GSD), Yogesh Kumar Singh, AMM/WS, S K Praharaj, CDMS/G, Narendra Kumar, CDMS/R, Deovrata Kumar, DMS, Monu Kumar, DMS and many officials and staff were present.
