Railways making 5 thousand isolation coaches, 40 thousand patients can be treated, 160 coaches mosifing in Kharagpur railway workshop

Kharagpur, In Kharagpur Railway Workshop, conversion of sleeper class coaches to railway isolation wards is going on fast. A total of 5000 railway coaches are being converted into isolation wards across the country. In Kharagpur workshop, a total of 200 officers and employees of the Department of Electric and Engineering are working on making railway coaches an isolation cabin. CWM S.K Chaudhary of Kharagpur Workshop told that the South Eastern Railway is to build 329 coaches out of which 160 coaches are being made by Kharagpur Workshop.

He told that 86 coaches has been sent and it is expected that work will be completed by Friday. He told that it is being made in the train so that it can also make movements and the patient does not have to wander far away. He said that on average there would be eight cabins in a bogie. The bogie’s electric capacity will be increased from 210 volts to 230 to run machines such as ventilators and nebulizers.

Apart from this, there will also be an arrangement of oxygen cylinder and monitor operator in the cabin. It may be noted that a cabin in the bogie will be for the doctor and nurse. To avoid the outbreak of mosquitoes, mosquito nets being fitted. A cabin is being built by mixing eight berths of sleeper. And middle berths are being removed. The toilet is also being equipped with modern facilities.

Each coach will have three toilet and one bathroom. Plastic curtains are being installed in each cabin so that the infection of the disease would not spread. They told that 15 to 20 years sleeper coach was being used.After Corona problem will be over then it would be modified for using in passenger trains.
