Shri Surinder Pal has taken over the charge of Senior Deputy General Manager, South Eastern Railway, Garden Reach, Kolkata on 05.08.2024. Prior to his new posting and taking over the charge, he was Chief Project Manager, Rail Land Development Authority, Chandigarh.

Shri Surinder Pal, IRSE (Indian Railway Service of Engineers) of 1990 Batch joined Indian Railways in March 1992 and after completion of probation period posted on the prestigious project of Jammu-Udhampur Rail Link in the year 1994.

Shri Surinder Pal has graduated in Civil Engineering from NIT, Kurukshetra and done post graduation in Structural Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He has served i­n various important posts such as Divisional Engineer, Allahabad (Prayagraj), Deputy Chief Engineer/Bridges, New Delhi, Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction), Delhi, Senior Divisional Engineer, Northern Railway, Ambala, Director/Vigilance, Railway Board, Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination), Northern Railway, Ambala, Chief Project Manager, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, Chief Project Engineer (Construction), Northern Railway, Chief Project Manager, Rail Land Development Authority, Chandigarh.

Shri Surinder Pal has undergone training in prestigious Railway Institutes like National Academy of Indian Railways, Vadodara; Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering, Pune; Indian School of Business, Mohali; INSEAD/ Singapore and ICLIF/Malaysia. He has the vast administrative and technical experience in planning, land acquisition, tendering and execution of New Rail Line Projects, Construction of ROBs, RUBs, LHS, National Project of Jammu-Udhampur Rail Link and construction of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Ludhiana to Telheri Bujurg (World Bank Funded Project). He has travelled extensively and his contribution in various Civil Engineering, Track, high altitude Bridges and Tunnels is noteworthy, vast and varied. He has keen interest in Sports, Railway History and Heritage as well as socio cultural activities.

GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT LOADING AND EARNINGS

 

South Eastern Railway has loaded 70.32 Million Tonnes of originating freight in the April-July of the current financial year 2024-25 which is 5.32% higher than the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

There has also been an increase of 8.41% in originating freight revenue in April-July, 2024 in comparison to the same period of 2023. During April-June, 2024, the revenue generation from originating freight loading has been Rs 6411.83 crore as against Rs. 5916.25 crore during the same period of the previous year.

SER has loaded 35.79 Million Tonnes of Iron ore during April-July, 2024, which is 5.89% more than the corresponding month of last fiscal. SER has also loaded 18.35 Million Tonnes of Coal during this period, which is 11.89% more than the corresponding months of last fiscal.  Other major commodities of freight loading were Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Cement, Food grains, Fertilizers etc.
