15 जुलाई को सबसे पहले भारत द्वारा प्लास्टिक सर्जरी दिवस के रूप में नामित किया गया था और बाद में दुनिया भर के प्लास्टिक सर्जनों ने भी इसे विश्व प्लास्टिक सर्जरी दिवस के रूप में स्वीकार किया। एसोसिएशन ऑफ प्लास्टिक सर्जन ऑफ इंडिया ने 8 से 15 जुलाई तक के सप्ताह को प्लास्टिक सर्जरी सप्ताह के रूप में नामित किया है।
सप्ताह भर चलने वाले उत्सव के एक भाग के रूप में, सेंट्रल हॉस्पिटल, गार्डन रीच ने 12 जुलाई, 2024 को एक रोगी जागरूकता कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया। एसोसिएशन ऑफ प्लास्टिक सर्जन ऑफ इंडिया के पूर्व अध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर सिटी रॉयचौधरी इस अवसर पर मुख्य अतिथि थे। यह एस.ई. के प्लास्टिक सर्जरी विभाग की 25वीं वर्षगांठ भी थी। रेलवे की शुरुआत 1999 में प्रोफेसर सिटी रॉयचौधरी के तहत एसएसकेएम अस्पताल में प्रशिक्षित होने के बाद डॉ. अंजना मल्होत्रा ने की थी।
कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत प्लास्टिक सर्जरी के दायरे की प्रस्तुति के साथ हुई और सेंट्रल हॉस्पिटल, गार्डन रीच में गतिविधियों का प्रदर्शन किया गया। इसके बाद प्लास्टिक सर्जरी टीम द्वारा त्वचा दान और अंग संरक्षण पर जागरूकता वीडियो की स्क्रीनिंग की गई।
इसके बाद एक विशेष रोगी प्रशंसा खंड का आयोजन किया गया, जहां जिन रोगियों का जीवन प्लास्टिक सर्जरी के माध्यम से बदल गया है, उन्होंने अपनी यात्रा साझा की। कार्यक्रम का यह भाग व्यक्तिगत कहानियों और प्रशंसापत्रों पर केंद्रित था, जो रोगियों को अपने अनुभव साझा करने के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करता था।
प्लास्टिक सर्जरी जन्मजात विकृतियों जैसे कटे होंठ, सिंडैक्टली, हाथ की चोट, जलन आदि का इलाज करती है। आर्थोपेडिक आघात के बाद नरम ऊतक कवर के लिए इसकी आवश्यकता होती है। क्रैनियोफेशियल सर्जरी, माइक्रोसर्जरी भी प्लास्टिक सर्जरी की उपविशेषताएं हैं। प्लास्टिक सर्जन अंग प्रत्यारोपण और यहां तक कि हाथ प्रत्यारोपण भी करते हैं।
कार्यक्रम ने विशेषज्ञता के दायरे और सीमा और रोगी के जीवन पर इसके प्रभाव के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने में काफी मदद की।

PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY WEEK
CELEBRATED BY SER CENTRAL HOSPITAL, GARDEN REACH

15th July was designated as Plastic Surgery Day first by India and subsequently plastic surgeons around the world also accepted it as World Plastic Surgery Day. The Association of Plastic Surgeons of India has designated the week from 8th to 15th July as Plastic Surgery week.
As a part of the week-long celebration, Central Hospital, Garden Reach organised a patient awareness program on 12th July, 2024. Prof Siti Roychowdhury, former President of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, was the Chief Guest on this occasion. It was also the 25th anniversary of the Plastic Surgery Department of S.E. Railway which was started by Dr Anjana Malhotra in 1999 after being trained at SSKM Hospital under Prof Siti Roychowdhury.
The program began with a presentation of the scope of Plastic surgery and showcased the activities at Central Hospital, Garden Reach. This was followed by screening of awareness videos on skin donation and limb preservation by the Plastic Surgery team.
It was followed by a special patient appreciation segment where patients whose lives have been transformed through plastic surgery shared their journey. This portion of the event focused on personal stories and testimonials, providing a platform for patients to share their experience.
Plastic surgery treats congenital deformities like Cleft lip, syndactyly, hand injuries, burns, etc. It is needed for soft tissue cover following orthopaedic trauma. Craniofacial surgery, microsurgery are also subspecialties of plastic surgery. Plastic surgeons also perform limb replantation and even hand transplantation.
The program went a long way in spreading awareness about the scope and range of the speciality and its impact on patient’s lives.
