INDIAN RAILWAYS RUNS 6556 SPECIAL TRAINS DURING DURGA PUJA, DIWALI AND CHHATH PUJA
Indian Railways is set to operate 6556 special trains to facilitate smooth travel for passengers during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja from October 1 to November 30 this year as on 6 october 2024. According to Railway officials, special trains are run every year during festivals and this year, the number of trains has been significantly increased to accommodate the surge in travelers.
This Festive season, South Eastern Railway will run more than 39 Festival Special trains during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath festivals. More than 308 trips will run during this season. In previous year, South Eastern Railway ran 26 Festival Special Trains with 132 Trips during Festive season.
It is noteworthy that during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath festivals, millions of passengers travel across the country. To provide them with a smooth and comfortable journey, Indian Railways has prepared to run these special trains again this year. Over the next two months, these special trains will ensure passengers reach their destinations seamlessly.
Last year, Indian Railways ran an impressive total of 4429 festival special trains, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for millions of passengers.
Every year, a large number of people from all over the country travel to West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja. These festivals are not only of religious significance for the people of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar but also provide an important opportunity to reunite with their families. Due to the heavy rush of passengers during the festive season, most trains see their tickets go on the waiting list two to three months in advance. To address this, Indian Railways is once again operating special trains during the festivl season this year.
WORKING HOURS OF COMPUTERIZED RESERVATION OFFICES DURING PUJA
It has been decided that all the Computerized Reservation Offices over Kolkata will function only one shift from 08:00 hrs. to 14:00 hrs. on 10.10.2024 (Thursday), 11.10.2024 (Friday), 12.10.2024 (Saturday) on the occasion of Durga Puja; on 16.10.2024 (Wednesday) on the occasion of Lakshmi Puja and 31.10.2024 (Thursday) on the occasion of Kali Puja/Diwali.
However, Current Reservation counter at Howrah terminal will function as usual for the above mentioned dates.
CONTINUATION OF SPECIAL TRAINS
With a view to clear the extra rush of passengers, it has been decided to continue the running of Special Trains as per the given schedule:-
- 05952 New Tinsukia-SMVT Bengaluru Special will continue to run till 26.12.2024
- 05951 SMVT Bengaluru New-Tinsukia Special will continue to run till 30.12.2024
GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT LOADING AND EARNINGS
South Eastern Railway has loaded 104.62 Million Tonnes of originating freight in the April-September of the current financial year 2024-25, which is 2.84% higher than the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
There has also been an increase of 6.93% in originating freight revenue in April-September, 2024 in comparison to the same period of last financial year. During April-September 2024. The revenue generation from originating freight loading has been Rs 9572.01 crore as against Rs. 8955.44 crore during the same period of the previous year.
SER has loaded 27.16 Million Tonnes of Coal during April-September, 2024 which is 8.08% more than the corresponding month of last fiscal. SER has also loaded 53.10 Million Tonnes of Iron Ore during this period, which is 2.45% more than the corresponding months of last fiscal. Other major commodities of freight loading were Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Cement, Food grains, Fertilizers etc.
