Kolkata, 26th May, 2021 Taking all sorts of precautionary measure in advance the severe cyclonic storm “YAAS” has made a less impact on the railway track for the movement of train operation over South Eastern Railway but damages of stations installations have been reported. Having a constant watch over the weather condition round the clock from divisional as well as headquarters offices the damages to major structure have been guarded. Wind velocity has been recorded in hourly basis at different stations of the affected area, which help to corrective decision in time. The advance planning of suspension of passenger train service proven to be fruitful in such circumstance. To minimize the extent of damages train movement has been stopped in Kharagpur – Bhadrak section, Kharagpur – Tatanagar section and Howrah- Kharagpur section as well over head electric current also switched off before hand as a safety measures.
So far the impact of YAAS over the railway track for running trains was under control and the disaster team rectified the damages at the minimum possible time. So far, it is reported that tree branches fallen on the railway track and overhead in different locations, especially in Kharagpur-Bhadrak section. Freight Train service has been resumed after 16.0 hrs section wise in phases after thorough checking the sections where movement of train suspended for the severe cyclone.
Local people have taken shelter at Phuleswar and Kolaghat station as the adjacent area became waterlogged due to sudden surge of water level of the canals. Tea and snacks were served by the station staff to the local people.
The major effect of cyclone YAAS was mainly over coastal area of West Bengal and Odisha obviously under the jurisdiction of Kharagpur division but the other three divisions are also expressed inclement weather. As per the information till evening,Adra and Chakdharpur division witnessed Medium range of rain and Ranchi division, Heavy Rain.
